Have your say on Blue Cod

Blue cod are a Kiwi icon. Sadly, due to years of mismanagement, blue cod stocks around the country are severely depleted.

On 24 June 2025 Fisheries NZ released proposals to reduce catch limits for blue cod.

• Blue cod 3 (BCO 3) – Kaikoura, Canterbury and Otago region – reduce all catch limits
• Blue cod 5 (BCO 5) – Southland and Fiordland – only reduce the daily bag limit
• Blue cod 8 (BCO 8) – Lower West Coast of North Island – reduce all catch limits.
