Dave Ahoia is a proud South Auckland local and the Kai Ika Lead Filleter. Originally from Tonga, he began filleting fish when he first arrived in New Zealand in 1988 and has been refining his skills ever since. Known to many as the “filleting ninja “, his speed and precision at the filleting bench are legendary. But it’s not just his skill that stands out, Dave is a people person who loves chatting with customers as they watch him work, often leaving with a smile and a story to share. His passion for serving the community is what drew him to Kai Ika, where he plays a key role in ensuring nothing goes to waste and everyone has access to kaimoana. When he’s not on the filleting bench, Dave enjoys cooking and eating fish heads, his favourite part of the fish, especially when prepared by his wife on the barbecue or in a hearty soup.
