April 13, 2023 Apply Now

If you’re a tenacious individual, a communications and social media guru with a passion for the marine environment, let’s talk.

We’re a non-profit organisation focused on restoring our coastal fish populations and marine environment. Destructive fishing techniques, over fishing and mismanagement has seen the health of our marine ecosystems continue to decline. Thankfully, Kiwis are increasingly aware of these issues and we’re now receiving regular offers of support. You can be part of this action.

Working closely with our Communications Lead, the objective of this role is to communicate, motivate and inspire a growing number of supporters.
The ideal candidate could have a background in communication and/or advertising, and is now looking for a part-time role.

On a daily basis you would communicate using a variety of mediums, including email, social media posts, reels, videos and newsletters. Strong writing skills, both short and long form, are essential; as is the ability to take and implement feedback from various internal stakeholders.

Being able to learn, understand and break down complex information to make it easily digestible for the public is pivotal to this role. To do this effectively you have to be creative, comfortable using different mediums such as photography and video.

Flexible hours and the ability to work at home would make this job suitable for someone juggling family responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies for our organisation’s social media platforms.
  • Write and edit short-form content for social media, including but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Monitor and analyse social media metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust as needed.
  • Assist in the creation of other communication materials such as graphics and newsletters as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in advertising or communications.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to translate technical or complex information into easily understandable language for the public.
  • Knowledge and passion for the marine environment and people.
  • Familiarity with digital communications, including social media and digital marketing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. Profiling will be completed for those candidates who shortlist.
We are looking for an individual with a can-do attitude, who is excited to make an impact towards restoring abundance in our marine environment.
